Confiscation suspended
The Finance Court of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, based in Greifswald (Vorpommern-Greifwald district), has suspended the confiscation order of the' Eventin', issued by German customs authorities. This is an interim judicial step and does not mean that the "Eventin" can set sail again. The Finance Court will continue to hear the case; until then, the federal government is not permitted to do anything with the ship — neither pump out the oil nor sell the vessel, due to ongoing appeal proceedings against the confiscation of the tanker by the customs authorities. According to the Finance Court, there are reasonable doubts as to whether the shipowner can invoke an "exceptional circumstance applicable to cases of distress at sea." However, this review must be reserved for the main proceedings. A date for this has not yet been set.
Tanker moved to dangerous goods anchorage
On April 17 at 7.30 a.m. UTC the 'Eventin' weighed anchor and was taken in tow by the tug 'Fairplay 83' (IMO: 9883637), and the 'Fairplay XVII' (IMO: 9808247), which both had been deployed from Swinoujscie, serving as steering tug, and shifted to the dangerous goods anchorage off Mukran. The convoy was escorted by the police launch 'Stoltera' (MMSI:211222830) during this manoever.
German authorities must await a court decision before they can dispose of the seized Eventin
The German authorities must await a court decision before they can potentially dispose of the seized "Eventin." The ship is believed to belong to Russia's shadow fleet.According to the Federal Ministry of Finance, legal action has been filed against the seizure. Further enforcement measures must be waived until the competent court makes its decision. The responsible authorities, meanwhile examined and confirmed the ship's seaworthiness. Maritime safety and the threat situation remained subject to ongoing review. The ship, which is moored off Sassnitz on the island of Rügen, is to be relocated promptly to a so-called dangerous goods anchorage, approximately three nautical miles from its current mooring.
