Elsa wreck removal completed

Wed Jul 19 12:12:14 CEST 2017 Timsen

The alvage company Koole-Mammoet has removed the last pieces of the "Elsa" from Ladder Bay on July 11. Koole-Mammoet was hired by Rijkswaterstaat after the motor yacht ran aground on the rocks in Ladder Bay in March. Last week, the salvage company removed pieces of debris from the beach and the seabed. On July 15, Saba Conservation Foundation (SCF) made its final inspection of the sea bottom. The Ladder Bay trail has been reopened, and the dive buoys in the area were reinstalled on July 18. The Public Entity Saba thanked everyone involved in the salvage, such as Rijkswaterstaat, Koole-Mammoet, SCF, the Harbour Office, local fishermen, and many others. Wreck of Elsa getting dismantled

Thu Jul 06 12:28:35 CEST 2017 Timsen

On June 9, a work barge and tugboat from the salvage company Koole Mammoet from the Netherlands arrived on Saba. The salvage company has been hired by Rijkswaterstaat to remove the wreck of the “Elsa” with minimal damage to the environment from the location where it stranded at Ladder Bay in March. Since their arrival, the top decks of the stranded craft have been cut and moved to the barge. Currently, the salvagers are working on the hull. The bow of the hull was removed on June 30. Depending on weather and sea conditions, it was hoped that the entire vessel will be removed in two weeks. When the vessel has been completely removed, the Ladder Bay trail will reopen and the dive buoys will be reinstalled. Report with photo: https://www.thedailyherald.sx/islands/67409-removing-wreck

High swell hampered salvors' work

Tue Apr 04 11:21:49 CEST 2017 Timsen

High ground swell hindered salvage operations of the "Elsa", which ran aground at Ladder Bay on March 22. Anticipating ocean conditions to worsen over the following days, the salvage company Resolve spent March 30 preparing the vessel for the increasing swell. Due to the deteriorating ocean conditions, activity surrounding salvage operations were temporarily slowed down. The vessel and ocean conditions were being monitored from March 31and continued to be monitored throughout the weekend. As soon as conditions permitted, the situation was to be reassessed and operations to be resumed at full capacity. An update on the salvage operations wast to be be given after an assessment and resulting plan has been made.
