Tank ship crew saved distressed single hand sailor
On Sep 3, 2016, the "AS Omaria" assisted a single hand sailor who was distressed between the island Møn and Hiddensee upon Rügen. The 9,5-m-catamaran yacht "Balance" had suffered damage and severe water ingress in high swell in the Kadet , and the skipper had radioed a mayday call which was received by the "AS Omaria" which was in vicinity of the sinking boat. The MRCC Bremen alerted the lifeboat "Theo Fischer" which was off Prerow at that time. The crew of the tank ship managed to take the "Balance" alongside and take the skipper off. He was transferred onto the lifeboat after the arrival and the damaged catamaran secured with floating devices before the multi purpose ship "Arkona" took over.
