Tug recovered debris of lost luxury yacht P6T2

Tue Jan 02 20:52:26 CET 2018 Timsen

The "Duke of Normandy" has recovered some debris of the sunken luxury yacht "P6T2". Some larger parts of debris that need to be recovered via land will wait until a window of suitable weather is available due to their size. A folding table, rear sunbed, seat cushions and the vessel’s registration book were among a number of items which have appeared on south coast beaches in recent days after a team of 20 salvage workers, along with a tug, a 200-tonne crane and rig, suspended the attempt to raise the wreck when the yacht broke up. The Coastguard has renewed warnings to mariners to keep a lookout for floating debris and staff had been kept busy recovering pieces of the boat, both in the sea and on land. There have been reports of debris landing on St Ouen’s Bay, Beauport, St Brelade and Portelet, both large and small sized pieces. The certificate of registry did wash ashore and was found by a member of the public who has been asked to take the document to the Jersey Ships’ Registry on Albert Pier. With all reports of debris washing ashore, the Coastguard will arrange for the removal.

Water ingress after grounding

Mon Sep 05 11:16:41 CEST 2011 Timsen

The "Duke of Normandy" has been damaged and started to take on water after touching bottom just outside St Helier Harbour on Sep 2, 2011, in the late afternoon. It was returning to port after assisting with the Brewin Dolphin sailing regatta in St Aubin's Bay. The tug returned to its moorings and a team of divers were sent down to investigate the extent of the damage and make temporary repairs. There were no injuries to the four members of crew on board. The type and extent of damage has not yet been revealed. The tug sailed to Falmouth in Cornwall for repairs after having been temporarily patched by divers where it moored on Sep 4 at 2 p.m. The replacement tug "Goliath" meanwhile has arrived from Poole.
