Barge slammed into cable of cable ferry
The "Mira Daruda", 1153 ts (EU-No.: 02314193), allided with the cable of the Culemborg-Schalkwyk ferry on Oct 27, 2016, at 6.30 a.m. The Connection was closed for traffic, and pupils and commuters had to make a lengthy detour. The barge was coming from Maasbracht when it slammed into the cable of the cable ferry with full speed. On the ferry were the captain, three cyclists and one motorist at that time. The ferry was pulled away from the sidewalk. The barge tried in vain to detach from the cable and blocked the river. The ferry was later able to return to the shore, but spent much of the day out of service. A floating crane had to help loosen the barge from the cable. The ship berthed in the port of Hengelo on Oct 28.
