Ship salvaged and moved to breakers with floating dock

Sun Aug 31 21:27:40 CEST 2025 Timsen

Thr "Deala" departed from the Raška Bay on the Halkan floating dockon the evening of July 28, and on July 29 the territorial waters of the Republic of Croatia. This completed one of the most complex and sensitive procedures for removing wreckage from the territorial waters of the Republic of Croatia, without polluting the sea and marine environment and without costs to the state budget. The final activities to remove the ship began in mid-July. The Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure and the insurer jointly made every effort to ensure that the procedure was carried out safely and in accordance with the highest environmental protection standards. After the owner abandoned the ship shortly after it ran aground, the obligation of removal and disposal in accordance with the Maritime Code was assumed by the insurer, who, in a public procedure and with the support of the Ministry, selected a contractor from Turkey. The chosen method of removing the ship involved lifting it onto a floating dock with the help of buoyancy modules and finally towing it to the breakers in Aliaga, where it arrivedon Aug 22. This method was chosen as the most effective and reliable option in terms of safety of navigation and benefit for the environment and the community. Until the contractor was selected, the Ministry had implemented a series of measures to prevent environmental pollution - oily water was pumped out of the ship, and the ship was anchored with concrete blocks to prevent its uncontrolled movement due to its grounded position. In addition, floating oul booms were placed around the ship on several occasions in order to prevent the spread of possible residues of oily water. The final towing of the Deala completed all activities and its removal from the Adriatic Sea, with all costs borne by the insurer. Photo: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/19an8qUj1u/
