Collision on the Maas
The "Damiano", 1568 ts (EU-No.: 02332750), was in collision with the Dutch pusher tug "Veerhaven III" (EU-No.: 02334855) on the Waal near Zuilichem at river km 943 in the early morning of Feb 2, 2016. Both ships had come from Antwerp. The tanker was loaded with 1,000 tons of benzene. It suffered severe damage to its wheelhouse and became unmanoeverable. The less damaged tug was able to bring it to an emergency anchorage at Haaften, and the situation was under control within short time. Rijkswaterstaat dispatched the "RWS 7" which went alongside the tanker, and also the police launches "P 98" and "P 99" attended for investigations. Ship traffic was not hampered by the accident.
