Water too shallow for second asylum ship in Meppel

The second refugee ship, the 'Crucevita', has arrived in the Meppel port en route from Lelystad on Nov 1, 2022. The ship can accommodate 110 refugees. The intention was that the vessel would berth at Zomerdijk, but it turned out that the waterwas too shallow. The ship is therefore now in Staphorster waters. The bottom of the Meppeler Deep will be leveled in the coming days by the municipality of Meppel. New paving and utilities are currently being worked on at the Zomerdijk so that the ship is accessible. Extra paving has also been laid for parking spaces and the placement of office units, in which the staff will soon be able to work. The biggest challenge turned out to be staffing. Getting security guards is still the biggest challenge. The first refugees will arrive next week.
