16 person injured when ship tilted in Milford Sound

Mon Mar 03 09:35:40 CET 2025 Timsen

On Feb 24, 2025, the 'Crown Princess', en route from Sydney to Port Chalmers, experienced a brief listing beyond its usual movement before stabilizing again, while transiting the Milford Sound. The tilt was caused by strong winds, which had been encountered during a course change. 13 passengers and three crew members suffered minor injuries. Water from the Lido Deck pool flooded a dining area but was quickly cleaned up, and some of the shops and galleys had items coming off the shelves. The ship, however, sustained no structural damages and continued on its voyage as scheduled. The crew promptly addressed the situation, ensuring passenger safety and restoring normal operations. The 'Crown Princess' was on a 14-day New Zealand voyage roundtrip, which had started in from Sydney. Medevac off Pines

Wed Jan 08 11:57:04 CET 2025 Timsen

The New Caledonia Operational Surveillance and Rescue Center (COSS NC), was requested to carry out a medevac from the 'Crown Princess' on the night of Jan 7. A passenger required urgent medical care. At 9:30 p.m. an alert was issued from the cruise ship, which was en route from Fiji to Australia. The ship was sailing 210 nautical miles south-east of the Isle of Pines. An Air Force Puma helicopter took off. and after a medical consultation on board, it was decided to transport her to Noumea. The operation lasted all night, and the patient was admitted to the Médipôle on Jan 9 at around 5:30 a.m. Emergency medical evacuation operations have multiplied in recent days in New Caledonia. They involved four cruise ships, for a total of five passengers. On Dec 29, 2024, on the 'Queen Elizabeth', an 85-year-old woman was evacuated by an air force helicopter to the Noumea hospital. On Dec 31, a 17-year-old passenger had to be evacuated from the 'Carnival Luminosa' because her state of health required treatment in a hospital center within 24 hours. A double evacuation took place on Jan 4 from the 'Carnival Splendor', aboard which two Australian passengers, suffering from respiratory distress, had to be transferred to the Médipôle.

Two elderly passengers medevaced on one day

Mon Oct 07 10:39:24 CEST 2024 Timsen

The US Coast Guard conducted consecutive medevacs of two ailing men from the 'Crown Princess' 50 nautical miles off Cape Kumukahi, Hawaii, on Oct 5,. Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu watchstanders received a phone call on Oct 4 at 6 p.m. from the cruise ship, requesting medevacs for a 70-year-old man experiencing heart attack-like symptoms and an 86-year-old man experiencing internal bleeding. The watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended a medevac for both patients. On Oct 5 at 9 a.m., an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point rendezvoused with the 'Crown Princess' about 50 miles off Cape Kumukahi. The helicopter hoisted the 70-year-old man and transported him to Hilo Medical Center in stable condition. A second Coast Guard helicopter then hoisted the 86-year-old patient and transported him to Hilo Medical Center in stable condition.
