Sun Jul 29 08:58:48 CEST 2012 arnekiel

Quebec City-based Groupe Desgagnés has added the 18th vessel to its general cargo, tanker and passenger fleet and will put it to work in the Eastern Arctic and in international service. The Claude A. Desgagnés was built and launched in China last year and was acquired for $25 million. It is named after Capt. Claude Desgagnés, a 50-year veteran of the transportation group, whose roots go back to the 19th century. The new ice-class A vessel is 139 metres long and has 20,000 cubic metres of freight capacity. It will fly the Canadian flag. The acquisition is part of Groupe Desgagnés’s long-term $250 million expansion program launched in 2008-2009.
