Fire in cargo hold
On May 4, 2019,at 8.15 p.m. a fire broke out in the cargo holds 1 & 2 of the "Yuan An Hai" while the ship was en route from Skikda to Southampton. The hold 2 has been sealed with a hatch to block the oxygen supply to the fire. The Hampshire Fire and Rescue were on scene. No pollution has been reported. Venting commenced at 5.40 a.m. and has been completed at 06.10 a.m. The temperatures were back to normal on May 5 at 10 a.m. Cargo offloading has been planned for noon. A P&I inspector was on board the vessel. A vehicle battery was suspected to be the source of the fire.
