Bulk carrier involved in rescue of migrants
On Nov 19, 2022, the 'Christina B', en route from Istanbul to Tarragona, was involved in an SAR operation of the Italian Coast Guard in difficult sea conditions during which 500 migrants on board a fishing boat needed assistance 70 miles off the coast of Sicily. Several Coast Guard boats transferred the migrants to the port of Pozzallo. Six men and one woman who were rescued by the "Christina B" and taken to shore too. Four bodies were found lifeless at sea, while two people remained missing. The Algerian authorities coordinated the response 170 miles from the Algerian coast and requested the collaboration of the Italian Coast Guard, which took care of the migrants and of the four bodies.
