Crew disposed of garbage in unauthorized manner
During a MARPOL check aboard the the 'SITC Zhoushan' in the Elbe Port on Jan 13, 2020, officers of the Brunsbüttel water police found entries in the garbage log about unauthorized disposal operations into the sea. The local court in Husum ordered a security deposit amounting to 8.500 Euros. Several entries in the garbage diary showed that dry cargo residues were discharged into the special area "North Sea" and into the German and Danish exclusive economic zone. The public prosecutor's office in Hamburg decided that the captain and the chief officer should be investigated. The district court of Husum ordered a security deposit. A flag state report to the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency was being prepared about a disposal of dry cargo residues in the Gulf of Mexico. The police also found that the waste water treatment plant was not working properly due to poor maintenance. The ship had berthed in Brunsbüttel on Jan 12 at 2.30 p.m., coming from Vysotsk.
