Yacht with 16 migrants interdicted off Point Loma

The 'Petrel (WPB-87350)' interdicted 16 migrants aboard the 25-foot sailboat 'Quarter Moon', homeported in San Diego, approximately 54 miles southwest, off Point Loma, on MAy 31, 2025. A C-130 aircraft from Air Station Sacramento was able to vector in the location of the sailing vessel to the crew of the 'Petrel'. The cutter launched a boarding team and was able to interdict the vessel without any use of force and found 16 people aboard the vessel, all claiming Mexican nationality. They were transferred to the custody of the U.S. Border Patrol at Ballast Point, on the afternoon. 12 migrants interdicted off sailing vessel

The US Coast Guard interdicted 12 migrants aboard a 25-foot sailing vessel approximately 12 nautical miles west of Point Loma, on Feb 9, 2025. At 10:19 a.m, a Customs and Border Protection patrol aircraft and a Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter sighted the sailing vessel. The 'Petrel' was notified and diverted and at 11:48 a.m. launched a small boat team for the interdiction. 12 occuptans were taken into custody, amnong them 11 adult males and one adult female claiming Mexican nationality.
