58 migrants repatriated

Tue Sep 17 09:27:49 CEST 2024 Timsen

The USCG 'Heriberto Hernandez' repatriated 58 migrants to the Dominican Republic on Sep 14, following the interdiction of an irregular, unlawful migration voyage in Mona Passage waters near Puerto Rico, on the evening of Sep 12. The Coast Guard Cutter 'Reliance' had located and interdicted a grossly overloaded 35-foot makeshift vessel in international waters, approximately 50 nautical miles northeast of Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The 'Reliance' launched their over-the-horizon small boat, which came alongside the migrant vessel, where the crew provided life jackets to the migrants, before transferring them to the safety of the cutter. The migrants were later transferred to the 'Heriberto Hernandez' to complete their repatriation. They were finally transferred to Dominican Republic Navy authorities in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Coast Guard Cutter involved in rescue of 49 migrants

Fri Jul 19 09:26:43 CEST 2024 Timsen

The 'Joseph Tezanos' repatriated 46 migrants to the Dominican Republic on July 17, following the interdiction of an irregular, unlawful migration voyage, approximately 34 miles northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. A U.S. Customs and Border Protection aircrew from the Caribbean Air and Marine Branch notified Coast Guard Sector San Juan watchstanders of a suspected migrant vessel spotted northwest of Aguadilla. The crews of the Coast Guard Cutters 'Heriberto Hernandez' and 'Richard Dixon', a CBP Air and Marine Operations boat crew, a Puerto Rico Police Joint Forces of Rapid Action (FURA) boat crew and an HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft crew from Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen were diverted to respond. The 'Richard Dixon' embarked 49 migrants from the overloaded vessel, and they were later transferred to the 'Joseph Tezanos'. Three migrants were transferred to CBP custody ashore for potential criminal prosecution, and the remaining 46 migrants were transferred to the custody of the Dominican Republic Navy for repatriation. Coast Guard Cutter seized drugs and detained nine men

Mon Jun 10 10:39:11 CEST 2024 Timsen

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter 'Charles David Jr.' offloaded and transferred custody of 245 kilograms of cocaine and nine suspected smugglers to Drug Enforcement Administration authorities at Coast Guard Base San Juan, Puerto Rico, on June 8, 2024. The seized contraband was estimated to have a wholesale value of $7.4 million dollars, while the interdiction and seizure is the result of multi-agency efforts involving Coast Guard’s Western Hemisphere Strategy, the Caribbean Corridor Strike Force Initiative and Operation Unified Resolve. The Drug Enforcement Administration was leading the investigation in this case. In the early morning hours of June 3, 2023, the 'Heriberto Hernández' had located a suspect vessel, approximately 75 nautical miles south of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. As the cutterapproached, the crew observed the occupants of the suspect vessel jettison multiple packages overboard. The crew of the cutter successfully stopped the suspect vessel that had nine men onboard, who claimed to be Venezuelan nationals. The cutter crew also recovered multiple packages of the jettisoned cargo and seized a total of 10 bales and two additional bags, with individual packages, which tested positive for cocaine. The 'Heriberto Hernández' embarked the nine detainees and seized contraband that were later transferred to the 'Charles David Jr.' for final transport to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
