66 migrants rescued off Augadilla
The 'Heriberto Hernandez' repatriated 66 migrants to the San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, on Sep 11, following the interdiction in the Mona Passage off Puerto Rico. They were transferred to awaiting Dominican Republic Navy authorities. Among them were 41 men and seven women, who claimed to be of Dominican Republic nationality. 13 men and three women claimed to be Haitian and two men claimed to be Romanian. No minors were identified in this case. The interdiction had occurred on the morning of Sep 9, after a Customs and Border Protection Caribbean Air and Marine Branch crew on a routine patrol detected a makeshift vessel northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Sector San Juan watchstanders diverted the 'Heriberto Hernandez' to respond. Once on scene, the crew deployed the cutter’s Over the Horizon Boat which stopped the boat. Following the interdiction, the crew safely disembarked all 66 migrants.
42 migrants interdicted off Cabo Rojo
The 'Joseph Tezanos' has repatriated 39 people to the Dominican Republic on Jan 5, 2025,, following an interdiction of a migration attempt approximately 41 miles southwest of Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico. Three of the interdicted migrants remained in U.S. custody to face possible federal prosecution by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Puerto Rico for attempting to illegally re-enter the United States in violation of Title 8, U.S.C., Section 1326. A Customs and Border Protection Caribbean Air and Marine Branch aircrew had detected the 25-foot makeshift vessel on Jan 2, before notifying Coast Guard Sector San Juan watchstanders. Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector San Juan diverted the Coast Guard Cutter 'Heriberto Hernandez' to carry out the interdiction. Once on scene, the cutter crew deployed the Over the Horizon boat which stopped the compliant vessel and embarked the migrants. The migrants were later transferred to the 'Joseph Tezanos' before being transferred to Dominican Republic Navy authorities. The migrants awaiting possible prosecution were transferred to U.S. Border Patrol Ramey Sector custody in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, on Jan 4. 17 migrants interdicted near Puerto Rico
The Coast Guard repatriated 17 migrants to the Dominican Republic on Nov 9, following the interdiction of a migrant boat in the Mona Passage waters near Puerto Rico. One of the interdicted migrants remained in U.S. custody to face federal prosecution by the U.S. District Court of Puerto Rico attempting to illegally re-enter the United States under 8 U.S.C. 1326. The interdiction occurred the night of Nov. 5, after the crew of a Coast Guard Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft sighted a grossly overloaded 40-foot makeshift vessel transiting southwest of Mona Island, Puerto Rico. Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector San Juan diverted the 'Heriberto Hernandez' to assist. Once on scene, the cutter deployed the Over the Horizon boat which stopped the compliant vessel and embarked the migrants, who claimed to be Dominican Republic nationals. The repatriated migrants were transferred to Dominican Republic Navy authorities. The migrant awaiting prosecution was transferred to U.S. Border Patrol custody in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, on Nov 7.
