Sperm whale blinded fishing vessel
The sonar of the "Herøyhav" which was just underway for mackerel in the Norwegian Sea, was destroyed in the collision with a sperm whale leaving it completely useless. During a diving survey it was found out that the robust sonar was curved to the aside. The master believed it was an adult male which can be 16 meters long and have a weight of 45 tons. High-Tech Fishing Vessel Delivered with MAN Propulsion
Norwegian company Herøyhav AS has taken delivery of a 69.95-m trawler/purse seiner from Karstensens Shipyard, Denmark, equipped with a propulsion package supplied comprising a MAN 9L27/38 engine and a two-speed reduction gear that drives a MAN Alpha 4,200 mm diam. ducted propeller. The Herøyhav was ordered by the Ervik family of Fosnavåg, Norway in January 2012 and replaces a previous vessel of the same name from 1999. The new fishing vessel has been updated with modern equipment that provides flexible and economic operation, both for pelagic trawling and purse-seine fishing in the Atlantic adjacent to Norway’s coast.
