Cruise cancelled due to technical issues
On July 19, 2024, the Celebrity Cruises company has announced the cancellation of the next scheduled cruise aboard the 'Celebrity Beyond', departing from Miami, due to technical issues slowing foen its sailing speed. Passengers booked for the July 20 cruise from Miami were initially informed that their departure would be delayed by one day. They were offered compensation, including one night's hotel stay. On July 20, a new letter announces the complete cancellation of this voyage, as the necessary repairs were taking longer than expected. Passengers will receive a full refund of their cruise fare, including non-refundable deposits. As a gesture of goodwill, Celebrity Cruises will also offer a credit toward a future cruise, equal to 100% of their paid fare. This credit will be sent by email within the next two weeks. For those who paid for their cruise with an existing credit, this will be reactivated. The refund will be issued automatically, with a maximum delay of 14 days. Passengers who booked their flight through the company will be contacted to reschedule their trip. For travelers who arranged their own flights, the company will reimburse up to $200 for domestic flights and $400 for international flights for the change of plans. One night's hotel stay up to $250 will also be covered, upon presentation of receipts emailed with booking information. The canceled cruise was scheduled to leave Miami for a week in the Eastern Caribbean, with scheduled stops in Nassau, St. Thomas, and St. Maarten.
Cruise ship assisted in SAR operation after migrant boat with hundreds on board sank
After Frontex first spotted the migrant boat which sank on June 14 with hundredds of migrants, at around 08:00 a.m. GMT on June 13 and informed the Greek authorities. Alarm Phone received a call at 12:17 p.m. GMT saying the boat was in distress. The m/v 'Lucky Sailor' abruptly turned north at 3 p.m. GMT after having been asked by the Coastguard to approach the migrant boat and give food and water. At 3:35 p.m. GMT, a coastguard helicopter found the migrant boat on a steady course at the time.At 6 p.m. GMT also the 'Faithful Warrior' diverted to the scene and gave supplies to the boat via a rope in the water. After the boat sank with hundreds on board, several ships, including the 'Celebrity Beyond', the luxury yacht 'Mayan Queen', which was then instructed to help take some of the 104 survivors ashore, diverted to the area. Passenger and crew member medevaced off Bermuda
On April 24, 2023, the 'Celebrity Beyond' diverted to Bermuda to disembark a crew member and passenger in need of hospitalization. At 1:38 p.m. the cruise ship contacted the RCC Bermuda from a position 500 miles Southwest of Bermuda on a trans-Atlantic voyage from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to the Azores advising that the ship planned to divert to Bermuda to disembark a crew member in need of hospitalization ashore. Later that afternoon the ship further advises that a passenger has suffered cardiac arrest and while now stabilized on a ventilator, the ship required assistance urgently disembarking this second emergency case as well. It arrived off of St. David’s Head on the afternoon of April 25. Both patients, two of the ship’s medical staff and a family member were transferred to a waiting pilot boat which took them to shore and into the care of hospital medical personnel in two ambulances waiting at Ordnance Island. The ship resumed the voyage with 2,179 passengers and 1,427 crew to Horta, Azores later that evening once the ship’s medical staff were back onboard from ashore.
