CARIBBEAN SEA 287211

Fri Jul 09 10:14:59 CEST 2010 Timsen

A rescue search for two passengers who went missing after a tour boat collided with a barge on the Delaware River in Philadelphia was suspended on July 8. Two Hungarian tourists -- a 16-year-old girl and 20-year-old man -- were still missing after a 20-hour search following Wednesday’s collision. Coast Guard said the search was now a “recovery operation” as he believed the missing persons could not have survived the crash. Murky waters and fast currents hindered the search early the day as the Ride The Ducks boat remained resting on the bottom of the river.

CARIBBEAN SEA 287211

Thu Jul 08 10:19:56 CEST 2010 Timsen

Crews of the Coast Guard, Philadelphia fire and police, New Jersey police and others were searching for two people after a collision between a duck boat and the barge/tug "Caribbean Sea" near Penn's Landing in Philadelphia. Ten of the passengers were taken to Hahnemann University Hospital. The collision occurred on July 7, 2010, at 2.39 p.m. between a duck boat, with 35 passengers and two crewmen, and the 250-foot tug and barge "Caribbean Sea" on the Delaware River in about 10 feet of water. The Coast Guard launched boat crews from Station Philadelphia and Aids to Navigation Team Philadelphia and an MH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., to rescue those in distress. The Captain of the Port of Philadelphia has closed the river to all traffic between the Walt Whitman and Ben Franklin bridges until further notice.
