MOL methanol carrier rescues castaway off the Bay of Biscay in Atlantic Ocean
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. today announced that the MOL- operated methanol carrier, the BUCCOO REEF, safely rescued a yachtsman off the Bay of Biscay in the Atlantic Ocean (about 370km northwest of the Spanish west coast) on August 2, 2017.
Medevac off Cape Henry
The Coast Guard medevaced a man on June 25, 2016, from the "Buccoo R." off Virginia Beach. Coast Guard watchstanders at the 5th District Command Center in Portsmouth received a call from the tanker about 2:30 a.m., stating a crewman was experiencing chest pains approximately 10 miles southeast of Cape Henry. An MH-60 Jayhawker helicopter crew launched from Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina, at about 4:35 a.m. The crew arrived on scene with Buccoo Reef at about 5:05 a.m. and hoisted the man aboard the helicopter. The crew then transported him to Sentara Norfolk Hospital in Norfolk, arriving at about 5:40 a.m. He was reported to be in stable condition.
Crew member seriously injured when falling into harbour basin
A crew member of the "Buccoo Reef" was injured on Apr 22, 2016. The ship had berthed in Bassens in the Gironde coming from Point Lisas (to unload its cargo of methanol. At 7:30 p.m. while the ship was about to leave the dock in Bassens the 33 year old Pinoy in charge of moorings fell into the Garonne. His head hit the hull before he submerged in the water. He was recovered and taken to hospital in a critical state. The police launched an Investigation.
