BOW ENGINEER 9317860

Mon Feb 14 19:09:29 CET 2011 Timsen

On Feb 14, 2011, the "Bow Engineer" saved four German yachties from their sinking s/y "Frigga" in the South Atlantic. The three men and one woman could be saved in spite of severe seas 1100 kilometres east of Mar del Plata from where the s/y had started on its way to South Africa. It had sprung aleak on Feb 13 and dewatering attempts had failed as did the electricity later. The crew then radioed a distress call via Cospas-Sarsat system. The MRCC Bremen relayed the call to the Argentine navy which requested the "Bow Engineer" to head for the "Frigga" and sent a surveillance plane which provided air coverage and established radio contact. The "Frigga" sank short time later.
