Crew member fell into the water and died after rescue

A man has died on May 4, 2021, at dawn after falling from the 'Bordeira' in the Bay of Algeciras. The ship was undergoing a crew change outside the anchorage of the port of Algeciras. One of the three people who were going to disembark fell into the sea and was hooked on the ladder. Salvamento Marítimo twas notified at 1.55 a.m. from the service vessel "Picasso I" and mobilized the SAR boat "Salvamar Denébola" and the auxiliary boat "Luz de Mar" to the scene. The pilot boat of Getares from the port of Algeciras also attended, being the one which finally recovered the man. He had been hooked on the ladder, and a crewman from the pilot boat jumped into the sea and released him. He was transported to the Saladillo dock, being conscious, although with signs of hypothermia. He was taken by ambulance to the Punta Europa hospital in Algeciras, where he died. The tanker entered the port of Algeciras for an inspection and investigation to clarify what happened.
