Berlin saved 245 refugees

The "Berlin" saved 245 refugees, among them three pregnant women and one child, from two distressed rubber boats 90 kilometers off the coast of Libya on Jan 22, 2016. The two boats were subsequently sunk as navigational hazards. The castaways were taken to Lampedusa and handed over to the Italian authorities.

539 migrants saved off Libya

On Dec 25 at 7 a.m. was tasked by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC)to check a contact 40 Kilometers off the Libyan coast. The vessel located four boats with 539 migrants on board. The Operation was supported by the Spanish fregate "Canarias", the Italian patrol boat "Comandante Cugala Fulgosi" and the Malta-flagged tank m/v "Silent". On the whole 505 men, 30 women and four children were rescued from three rubber boats and a wooden boat which all were sunk as navigational hazards afterwards. In the foremidday of Dec 26 the boat People were transferred onto the Norwegien supply vessel "Siem Pilot".

On Dec 23, 2015, the "Berlin" saved 212 refugees, among them eight children and five pregnant women, in the Frame of the mission EUNAVFOR MEDfrom from two rafts off the Libyan coast and handed them over to the Italian Coastguard.
