Ferry suffered faulty seal
The 'Barnstable' had to be taken out of service on July 29, 2025, due to a mechanical problem, resulting in several cancellations on its route to Nantucket. The departure at 8 a.m. from Nantucket and the departure from Hyannis were canceled due to a faulty oil seal on the port engine, which needed to be replaced. The 1:30 p.m. sailing was also canceled, but the freighter 'Sankaty' stepped in and was able to bring hazardous waste to the mainland for the scheduled trip. On the afternoon, the faulty oil seal had been repaired. The ship was sailing from Nantucket again on the morning of July 30.
