Freighter abandoned by its owner

Sun Mar 15 13:55:24 CET 2020 Timsen

The 'Reggae' was abandoned by the owner at the Sfax anchorage, Tunisia, on Feb 14, 2020. The vessel had a crew of eight, including four Indian, three Turkish, and one Georgian nationals. The crew reportedthat their wages had not been paid and there was no supply of drinking water, provisions and fuel. Additionally, the master fell ill and needed medical attention. The Flag state had not responded to a notification from the International Transport Federation. The Tunisian Port State Control (PSC) have contacted the vessel owner by email and phone. The owners, however, were not moving, and they do not assume responsibility for the vessel. All crew members wished to be repatriated as soon as possible but wanted to be paid before that. Between two and four months, wages are unpaid, and amounts to about 33,000 US dollars. The vessel sailed from the Sfax anchorage on March 11, bound for Izmir, ETA March 14.
