Engine trouble off Aden
The 'Athena' suffered an engine failure and went adrift in the Gulf of Aden, 60 nautical miles southwest of Aden in pos. 11 47 38 N, 044 24 49 E on Nov 30, 2022, at about 06.30 a.m. UTC. The crew carried out repairs, while the vessel continued to drift in a northwesterly direction until the engine was re-started on Dec 3. On Dec 4 the ship moored at Djibouti anchorage, where it remained stationary in pos. 11° 39.03' N 043° 08.24' E as of Dec 14.
Niara first ship berthed at Dammam's new container terminal
On 23 April 2015, SGP handled the first commercial vessel, M/V NIARA, owned by Orient Express Line. 1,011 TEUs were handled on this 2,000-TEU capacity vessel. Located in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, Dammam City, phase 1 of SGP’s terminal has 16 metres of water depth, the deepest in the region, and is equipped with six quay cranes of 23 container row span on 700 metres of quay. When the new SGP terminal is fully developed, it will have a quay length of 1,200 metres and 12 quay cranes, with a designed capacity of 1.8 million TEUs per annum.
