Medevac in Wismar Bay
On June 16, 2019, a person had to be medevaced from the "Atalanta" in the Wismar Bay. At 1.45 pm the "Atalanta" called for assistance west of the island of Poel. One of the passengers on board, an elderly man, had collapsed and was unresponsive. The lifeboat "Wolfgang Wiese" of the DGzRS station Timmendorf with a volunteer crew on board immediately rushed towards the "Atalanta". Meanwhile, the nearby traditional sailing ship "Albatros" sent a doctor from its crew with a dinghy to the "Atalanta". She climbed over and stabilized the patient on board. The man was already approachable when the lifeboat arrived wich took the patient and the doctor on board. In the port of Timmendorf/Poel he was handed over to the land rescue service for further treatment.
