Trawler towed to port

Following a call for assistance from the 'Asteria' with six crew members onboard and a fouled propeller, the volunteer crew of the St Mary's RNLI lifeboat launched on May 10, 2020, at 8.15 p.m. The lifeboat, under the command of coxswain Peter Hicks, arrived at the casualty approximately 15 miles north of the Isles of Scilly. The vessel was drifting in a two metre swell and a force 6 north easterly wind. Once on the scene, a towline was attached and a long, slow tow began towards Newlyn in Cornwall. The Penlee RNLI lifeboat 'Ivan Ellen', skippered by coxswain Patch Harvey, then took over the tow near Wolf Rock Lighthouse at 3.15 a.m. and continued to take the disabled vessel to Newlyn. The St Mary's lifeboat then returned to harbour, arriving at 4.50am and was subsequently refuelled and made ready for service once more.

Fishing vessel in trouble off The Mouls

On Oct 4, 2019, at 9.30 a.m. the Padstow lifeboat was alerted for the assistance of the 'Asteria - PW 977' which was in trouble one mile north of The Mouls. The lifeboat crew headed to the fishing vessel in force 7 winds and swells of three meters height. Once on scene they established a tow line and pulled the vessel safely into Padstow Harbour.
