Ferry rescued shipwrecked fisherman
After the 9,3-m-gillnetter 'Ar Bikez-CM 460446' (227315920/built 1979) sank near Crozon on Dec 13, 2022, its skipper, who was lifting his nets when the ship capsied, was rescued by the 'Armorique', en route from Le Havre to Portsmouth, very close to the Pointe des Capucins, opposite Roscanvel. At around 2:45 p.m., the fisherman reported that his fishing boat reports heeled close to the tip of the Capucins, with water flooding it quickly from the bow. He had just enough time to jump aboard his tender boat. The CROSS Corsen immediately sent an alert message to surrounding vessels. Very quickly, several ships of the French Navy, including the 'Lynx', 'L'Églantine' and 'La Glycine' and a semi-rigid of a mine clearance diver went to the scene. The ferry located the castaway and examined him once he was on board by a nurse. His state of health did not present any concern. The fishing boat meanwhile sank. An urgent notice to shipping was issued. The wooden wreck of the 'Ar Bikez', ex-'Enez Eog', should be refloated soon.
One year old child medevaced off Jersey
On Sep 5, 2021, the CROSS Jobourg was informed by the maritime medical consultation center of Toulouse, that a one year old child on the 'Armorique' was injured and required a medical evacuation. The ship was 12 nautical miles from Jersey. CROSS Jobourg then initiated a conference call with the Toulouse Maritime Medical Consultation Center and the Le Havre Maritime Medical Coordination Service. A medevac of the injured is decided. Given the difficult weather conditions with poor visibility to carry out the winching, and the distance to be covered to reach Nantes airport, a Caiman helicopter of the French Navy base in Maupertus was tasked with the operation. The child along with his mother were hoisted aboard the helicopter and then dropped off at Nantes airport, where an ambulance was waiting for the transfer to the Nantes hospital.
