Medevac off Réunion

On Feb 23, 2021 at 4:45 p.m., the CROSS AG was alerted by the 'AR Letoad' after one crew member fell ill. The ship was then some 75 nautical milesfrom Réunion. The CROSS immediately puts the ship in touch with a doctor from the maritime medical consultation center based at the Purpan hospital in Toulouse, which recommended the evacuation of the sailor to a hospital as soon as possible. The fishing vessel was located nearly ten hours of navigation from Réunion and out of reach of a helicopter. The CROSS asked thebulk carrier 'SSI Invincible II' to divert to the longliner to assess the feasibility of transferring the patient on board. At 9:30 p.m., the man was successfully transferred onto the bulk carrier, where he received first aid. An appointment was then organized with a helicopter of the gendarmerie about 20 nautical miles west of Réunion with a doctor of the SAMU on board. The patient was hoisted around 1:00 a.m, and then transported to the Saint-Denis hospital center.
