Fire aboard ethanol tanker
Along the Tragel in Hofstade a fire broke out in the engine room of the "Antigoon", 447 ts (EU-No.: 06503006), a ship that usually transports bio-ethanol for the Tereos Syral Company, in the night of Jan 9, 2019. The ship was unloaded. Bioethanol is extremely flammable and can also cause explosions, but the fire department is equipped with a special foam to deal with such fires. The engine room was shut off from the rest of the ship, so there was no immediate danger that the fire could spread further. The damage remained limited. The Aalst fire brigade was notified and could extinguish the fire quickly.The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
