Medevac off Hai Phong
The Marine Search and Rescue Coordination Centre in the northern port city of Hai Phong on Sep 1, 2017, successfully carried out emergency medical aid for a Croatian crew member of the "Ante Topic". Magdalenic Ivica, aged 30, suffered serious injuries while working on board of the cargo ship 84 nautical miles to the East-Southeast of Hai Phong city. After receiving a call for help from the vessel, the centre immediately sent a rescue ship to the scene. Meanwhile, the "Ante Topic" was requested to head to Hai Phong at its maximum speed. At 3 p.m. the victim was brought ashore and rushed to a local hospital. He survived the critical phase and improved gradually. The centre will work with the Consular Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Croatia Embassy in Vietnam to prepare necessary procedures for the sailor to return home after he recovers his health.
