Sailing vessel caught under bridge
On Sep 25, 2018, the "Amphitrite" with a German 12.th grade school class from Wolfenbuettel on board was drifted by the currents against a piling of the bascule bridge of the port of Sonderborg upon its departure. Obviously there was more current than the helmsman expected. The ship initially managed to back off again, but when trying to turn around off the bridge it was pushed broadside under the main span and got caught under the fairway, tilting to port side. The suffered damages to its starboard side, but could later be pulled out by a fishing vessel. It left the port at 10 a.m. and berthed in Svendborg on Sep 25 at 11.15 p.m. No injuries reported.
