Disabled ship towed to Adak

The'Aleutian No. 1'´was disabled 160 miles off Adak with eight people on board on Dec 28, 2923. Watchstanders in the 17th District command center of the US Coast Guard were notified by the master of the vessel at 5:57 a.m. that the ship had fouled its propeller. The crew was unable to conduct repairs, leaving the ship adrift approximately three miles north of Amchitka Island, 575 miles southwest of Dutch Harbor. Weather conditions at the time of the tow were 30-40-mph winds, 10-15-foot seas, periodic snow, sleet and blizzard conditions, with air and water temperatures of 34 degrees.The Coast Guard cutter 'Alex Haley' was recalled from a mid-patrol break and transited 575 miles in the Being Sea to provide assistance.The CG Cutter 'Alex Haley (WMEC 39)' arrived on Dec 30 at 1 a.m. and towed the ship to Adak on Jan 1, where the tow was transferred to the fishing vessel 'Erla-N', which pulled the ship into the port of Adak where it was moored at the pier at 11:30 a.m. with the help of boats of the 'Alex Haley’' at 1:00 a.m. Report with video: https://www.news.uscg.mil/Press-Releases/Article/3630819/multimedia-release-coast-guard-tows-disabled-fishing-vessel-to-adak-alaska/
