Diver ship refloated

Sat Jan 07 20:33:16 CET 2017 Timsen

In the morning of Jan 6, 2017, the "Alcatras" was refloated at Accra Skandariou off Kos using lifting balloons and a salvage tug. The ship was securely anchored near the grounding site. The diving ship, which still has a controlled ingress of water, was under detention.

Grounded ship was carrying an anti missiile system

Wed Dec 28 11:04:58 CET 2016 Timsen

A rudder damage tcaused the grounding of the "Alcatras" in Ammoglossa near Accra Skandariou upon Kos. The ship was carrying an anti missile system intended for Turkish frigates. This load was the reason why the Turkish captain refuses to be towed to the port of Kos and wanted the damage to be repaired on the spot. The ship, having come from Tuzla and bound to Antalya, was stuck 100 meters from the beach of Lambi. It suffered water ingress t the stern which was under control. Two patrol boats of the Greek Navy were unable to assist due to the adverse weather conditions. No marine pollution was observed. Alcatras aground on Kos coast, Greeks suspicious

Tue Dec 27 10:17:12 CET 2016 Timsen

The "Alcatras" ran aground 40 meters off the coast at the northern tip in the Amoglossa area of Kos island in stormy weather with 6-7 Beaufort on Dec 26, 2016, at 4.45 a.m. in the same place where the Turkish frigate "Yavuz"on Dec 25, 1995, got stuck and created a diplomatical crisis between in Greece and Turkey. The Scooby Dive Boat which was carrying diving material loaded in the port of Cesme, opposite Chios, was in Greek territorial waters and did not show neither the Greek nor Turkish flag. After it ran aground heavy equipment stored on the main deck was covered with tarpaulins, crates were thrown overboard regarded by heavy armour by witnesses, and immediately sent out distress signals to Turkish Port authorities which did not contact the Greek authorities. The Turkish vessel initially did not accept Greek salvage assistance. It was said the hull had suffered significant breaches and the ship was likely to sink when pulled off. Instead the master ordered a Turkish tug. Some of the crew left the ship with half a dozen remaining on board. The Greek navy, having become suspicious, sent a ship to the grounding site. At 10 a.m. the crew finally requested assistance, and the tug "Panagia Faneromeni" was deployed from the port of Kos. Salvage attempts failed due to the strong wind and high surf. The helm of the ship suffered damage. Once the storm has abated, salvage work was to be continued.
