Oil spill in Brunsbüttel

Tue Aug 28 11:08:16 CEST 2018 Timsen

The "Trent Navigator" caused an oil spill at a bunker pier in Brunsbüttel in the late evening of Aug 26, 2018. The ship had berthed at 11.30 p.m. at the bunker pier and started taking on heavy fuel. Two other ships passed the freighter at that time, one of them, the "Baltic Tern", transioted the high speed and little distance so that the "Trent Navigator" broke lose from its moorings and the fuel hose was damaged. Immediately the fuel transfer was stopped, but about 10-20 liers oil were spilt into the Kiel Canal. Oil booms were laid out to contain the spill, and the decontamination of the water was ordered by a tasked private company. The police launched an investigation to find out the responsibility. The ship continued the voyage towards the Northsea on Aug 27 at 5 p.m.
