Tug sank after collision with Gold Eagle

Wed Dec 28 17:52:26 CET 2016 Timsen

The tug "La Bella" sank in Zamboanga City in the Sta. Cruz Strait, on Dec 27, 2016, around 10 a.m. after a collision with the "Gold Eagle“ 500 meters from the Cawa Cawa Boulevard. The tug slammed with its starboard bow into the anchor of the cargo ship and capsized. It had only 100 liters diesel on board, no pollution fears, no injuries. One of the two crew members waa able to cling on an anchor, where he was rescued, the other one managed to swim ashore.

GOLD EAGLE 9168398

Mon Jan 10 10:06:19 CET 2011 Timsen

The "Gold Eagle" was arrested by Philippinese authorities in the Barangay Baloganon mining port after vessel docked without proper permission for loading chromite ore from a mine involved in legal dispute. In July 2010, police officers, Army soldiers and the Zambales Provincial Mining Regulatory Board (PMRB) took custody of the chromite mine following reports of large-scale chromite theft at Sitio Coto in Barangay Taltal, Masinloc. The Coto mine has not been active since the raid, but a court ruling issued by Zambales Executive Judge Josefina Farrales on January 4 restrained government from intervening, when it allowed Ye Zhou, Geoking president, to retrieve 7,000 metric tons of chromite ore from the mine site. But Estioco cited in his seize order a January 6 ruling issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Adoracion Bocar, which overturned Farrales' ruling. Authorities believe the Panamanian vessel was shipping out the Geoking ore. odin.tc
